The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie provides safe refuge and emergency support services for abused and at risk women and their children. They were in need of a website to communicate their initiative to those in need and those wanting to help such as volunteers and future employees.
This project challenged me with focusing on user experience heavily for the first time. With a human centered user experience approach, I designed a website that is easy & quick to navigate but also is easy to escape by implementing multiple ‘exit site’ and ‘cover your tracks’ buttons. This was the most important feature the client was looking for, so that those in need could easily leave the site and delete any trace of it in their browser history to protect themselves. I also made sure the site was accessible so that any person in need could use the website in their own way. The existing branding, imagery and colours really pulled the site together so it’s not only a beautiful website but a really easy to use one as well.
